The scent came before the sight.

Metallic.

Hot.

Unavoidable.

She imagined it was the scent of war.

When her thick blood painted the shower red, 

She marched into her mother's arms,

A soldier preparing for battle.

"I am not yet a woman," she screamed

with tears in her eyes.
